#OttawaStyle Update: New shops and designer stores in Ottawa

It’s no surprise that the Ottawa Fashion scene is experiencing a renaissance like no other. Almost every mall is under construction with major renovations ahead. There is no need to cross the border; the US or Quebec’s for that matter. Ottawa shopping has changed, and so should your routine!

I pulled together a handful of new shops that have opened up, and some that will soon!

New stores in Ottawa to visit

  • Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) in Trainyards. The one-destination for all your shoe shopping needs.
  • Fifth Avenue OFF FIFTH at Tanger Outlets. A mini department store offering a mix of contemporary and high end brands… but at a fraction of the price!
  • Hudson’s Bay next to the Rideau centre has done a massive overhaul. They have recently opened Ottawa’s first Topshop and Topman. This #LONDSTYLE inspired brand provides a nice variety of trendy pieces at a mid price range.

Coming soon

  • Simons will be opening their second store in the area, inside Rideau Centre sometime this summer (August 2016)
  • Ted Baker London in the Rideau Centre

Pink Tiger features Canadian Fashion Designer Kristie Lance and supports LGFB

I was invited to attend a fundraiser luncheon, hosted by Sue Norton of Pink Tiger. Over lunch, we watched Canadian fashion designer, Kristie Lance, present her Spring 2016 looks which also included her first full plus-size line. This fashion show lunch was also a fundraiser to support Look Good  Feel Better. The lunch was held at Santé Restaurant, who hosts fashion show lunches on the regular!

Pink Tiger is an online marketplace that showcases a variety of Canadian designers. The unique shopping experience at Pink Tiger is built around a Random Acts of Kindness movement.

At Pink Tiger, we are truly passionate about two things: fashion and philanthropy. We believe that companies have an obligation to give back to the community – after all, our community is our customer base.  We also believe that by supporting emerging and existing designers, we can give them a way to give back, just by selling an item on www.pinktiger.com.

She’s been doing some pretty crazy work all over Ottawa these days, and if you haven’t heard of her, you must be living under a rock! I am always amazed at Kristie’s talent and finally had the chance to watch the fashion show. I was front row, and not back stage this time! Kristie does custom design work and specializes in curvy and plus-size fashion! Her clothing line is available from size 0-22. She and I share the same philosophy when it comes to embracing your curves and I couldn’t be more honoured to share this with you! You’ll have to follow her #JoinTheRebellion ventures online.

These mules are made for walking

According to Wikipedia “the French word, Mule, is a style of shoe that is backless and often closed-toed. Mules can be any heel height – from flat to high.”

My main goal this spring, was to get my hands on the perfect neutral pair. Something that would go with any outfit, something comfortable that I can actually wear all day and not regret it as soon as I am in the car! Before we dig in further, let’s start with a little fashion history lesson. These are always my favourite.

OK, this description seems a little bit dramatic, although what history lesson isn’t. I can’t imagine a woman wearing these heels be considered a prostitute. Let me guess… I bet a man was involved in either writing that description and coming up with that garbage.

Anyway, before I get on my feminist horse, I wanted to show you what I’ll be wearing soon (but first, please cross your fingers for this April snow to melt away). So here they are folks my new Emu Australia mules, this is the “Burleigh” style in Mushroom colour.

I purposely went for something neutral in tone to not only elongate the leg, but to offer versatility. With the popularity of the boho style making a comeback this summer, I’m sure I’ll get lots of wear out of them!

At a cool $159, you can’t go wrong.

I won’t even even tell you the workout I got from taking this photo.. squats and all!

Recap: The Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show 2016

Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show Fashion Blog

Well friends, it has come and gone, another successful year of the Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show. This year was bigger than ever; more vendors, more space, more stuff!! If this year had a theme, it would be COLOUR and I tried my best to photograph and capture the essence of it all.

Funny story- I walked by a booth that categorized their clothing by era. What made me feel old for the fist time in my life (because, honestly I still feel like I am 25), was the 80’s & 90’s section! I mean, I was born in the 80’s and grew up in the 90’s… was it really that long ago? Enough to call it VINTAGE?!! Hahaha it totally made me laugh.

Yesterday, I finally made it to A Vintage Collective a new mini vintage market downtown, they also had a booth at the show. It completely reminded me of Queen Street West circa 1999, you remember… that shop with the Gorilla at the front door! What really came to me as a surprise was the “Fresh Prince of Bel-air” vibes of clothes in the men’s department… and actually women’s too (aunt Viv rocked those shoulder pads like no other and so can you!).

Vintage clothes is hot, no matter when. What I find interesting is that even with vintage, there are trends. Last year, it was all about fur and vintage Chanel. This year the direction we are headed in, is full on colour with a dash of old school hip hop (#HammerTime).
