Winter Fashion Street Style Looks- Vintage wool

Since we are supposed to be getting another snow storm, I thought it would be timely to share the last look from the winter fashion street style session that I did with Amy Symes. Check out the other two looks from the series Vintage Fur and Black and Grey.

This was the first look we shot, not entirely our favourite, but the look is there, non the less. We shot this in the field next to my house. Amy was concerned that the backdrop wasn’t lively enough. What do you think?

In this photo, I am wearing:

  • Bandeau and black gloves with bow from H&M
  • Vintage wool coat with fur trim from Rewind Couture (Toronto)
  • Grey turtle neck from H&M
  • Blue jeans from GAP
  • Rebecca Minkoff purse from Fashion United
  • Ugg Boots

In this outfit, I felt very warm and comfortable. This is a great casual and easy look for “mom on the go”. I get loads of compliments on this jacket too, and most of all I love the detailed buttons. One thing I have to admit is that I ADORE my hair here, this to me is a good hair day. The cold always gives me nice hair. That’s all 🙂

Winter Fashion Street Style Looks- Black and Grey

As promised, here is the second look from the winter fashion street style session that I did with Amy Symes last weekend. These photos were taken on Bank street near Catherine. If you missed it, check out Vintage Fur. Yes! like the Krista Norris Scarf that was gifted to the Obama girls from Sophie Gregoire and Justin Trudeau at their visit to the White House!)

In this photo, I am wearing:

  • my favourite wide brim hat from Lovely Bird, which I bought in Toronto at The Cloakroom
  • my black and white scarf is by Ottawa designer Krista Norris, purchased at Viens avec moi. Yes! like the Krista Norris Scarf that was gifted to the Obama girls by Sophie Gregoire and Justin Trudeau at their visit to the White House!
  • my camel leather gloves are H&M
  • my grey coat was a second hand find at The Clothes Secret
  • my black leather purse is Marc Jacobs from Fashion United
  • my black suede wedged WINTER boots are from La Canadienne. They are the leader in elegant and functional winter weather boots. They are also from Montreal and obviously a Canadian brand. I bought these boots about 4 years ago and they are still going strong! Great investment and worth every penny (albeit many of them).

I felt really feminine, chic and most importantly WARM, in this outfit. I got a lot of stares, which can only confirm that it looked as fabulous as I felt in it. Maybe a tad over dressed for a Sunday afternoon, but who really cares!

Winter Fashion Street Style Looks- Vintage Fur

I just can’t even… Every time I look at these bright photos, I forget that it’s winter and that we have 50+ cm of snow piled up on the streets.

Amy Symes and I planned this impromptu winter fashion street style session last weekend, at a few different spots in Ottawa. Something I have been meaning to tick off the old “to-do” list. I was so happy to work with her. I have known Amy for just over a year and love her bright, beautiful and crisp photography style. She was a trooper to do this in the cold and managed to stay friends with me, despite her frozen fingers. I, on the other hand was warm! That’s right, my friends… no suffering here! That was the goal of this winter fashion shoot. Some practical styling tips for a true Canadian fashionista, unlike what exists online.

In this photo, I am wearing my favourite pompom tuque from Shepherds, my vintage fur coat and Tory Burch fur boots from The Clothes Secret, black leather gloves from Simons, my bright blue Marc Jacobs back pack from Fashion United, and black leggings from Amazon!

Stay tuned for two more looks from the Winter Fashion Street Style Looks series!

Movie Review: Iris

I finally had a moment to myself last night to #netflixandchill. I love documentaries, particularly when they are fashion related. “Iris” was on my to-watch list for a while, including “The real cost” (a look at the somewhat depressing truth of fast fashion and the negative effects it has on our planet and society).

When I watch documentaries or read books about fashion I always feel compelled to write a review. Like a mini book report.

Here are a few observations that really struck me from the movie “Iris”, more so Iris’ point of view and philosophy on fashion and life in general.

She was a very hard worker and truly gifted artist. She was fortunate enough to have been surrounded by the right people and take advantage of where she was brought up, New York! All the stars were aligned, and she took advantage of life!

Here are a few of my favourite lines:

– You shouldn’t give a damn about the party, what’s important is getting dressed for it!

– It’s the process of getting dressed that’s fun

– Style is a gut feeling, not math

– Someone once told me “You’re not pretty, but you have something much better: style”.

One thing that really resonated with me, was the strong relationship with her husband. They both have an amazing sarcastic sense of humour and are still very much in love. ? Even at 90 (Iris) and 100 (Albert) their love for each other has not faded. I love how Iris pets his hair, and he calls her child, or something of that sort. Sadly, Albert has recently passed, which I’m sure has greatly affected Iris.

“Iris” was a fun and quick documentary to watch. Lots of great lessons in life jam packed in only 1:17 minutes.

Have you seen it? Any recommendations of other documentaries I should watch? Leave me a comment below!
