Metamorphosis: Ottawa Fashion Show & Marketplace for the ecoconscious

What are you doing on October 26? Nothing? Perfect! Join me at Metamorphosis Eco-Fashion Show for your dose of daily Ottawa Fashion and guilt-free shopping!

About Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis Eco Fashion Show and Marketplace is an event that showcases and supports environmentally-minded emerging fashion designers in the Ottawa area. Hosted by EcoEquitable, Metamorphosis is Ottawa’s newest Fashion Show to enter the social, artitist and ecoconscious scene. It’s a chance to showcase local Ottawa talent and slowly put to rest the practices behind fast-fashion, hopefully for more than just one night.

Founded in 2002, EcoEquitable Inc. is a registered social Canadian enterprise, providing temporary employment and skills development training through small-scale textile recycling.

I am 100% guilty of indulging in non-ecoconscious clothing. I am sure you can agree that finding larger sizes is hard enough, let alone adding another layer of “where/how is this made?” But the interesting fact is, when clothes are hand-made by a local person, it can often be made to measure. It may cost a little more, but it will look amazing (and you will feel amazing knowing you made a difference!) I urge you to get out of your comfort zone and come explore the event with me.

Supporting this event will directly impact the local businesses in your community and leave a small but mighty footprint in the movement towards a safer and cleaner fashion industry. We can’t make a change happen overnight, but we can all start somewhere.

I’ll be getting dolled up with my friend Malorie who just launched her Canadian sustainable fashion e-store, Either Or. She will be at the event and will showcase her collection in person! I can’t wait to show you what we put together!

Her Campus uOttawa is an online chapter magazine at the university of Ottawa. The magazine is written and run entirely by students. In the past, HCuOttawa has raised money for The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, The Canadian Lupus Society, and The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. In addition to hosting an annual charity fashion show, the magazine also hosted their first ever student leadership conference last year, and will continue to host the conference each year because of its success. Due to HCuOttawa’s viral and unique articles and large-scale and extravagent events, they have been crowned a Pink Level Chapter by Her Campus National and continue to uphold the title for a second year in a row.

PR Event: Shepherd’s Fashion Show with Lynn Spence

Shepherd’s Fashion in Ottawa was hosting their Fall Fashion Week, and I attended their event on Friday, October 2. WOW! A combination of food, decor, fashion and gorgeous women looking their best. I love that about interior designers, they pay attention to detail in all facets of their life, not just interior design. They always look amazing and have great clothes! BONUS!

So naturally, I gravitated to this lovely giant tier tray adorned with champagne flutes. Yup, I love champagne. I also love that this store has a catwalk built into it!! How smart is that?! Gorgeous models strutted their fall looks down the curvy lane, while women shopped until they dropped!

The particularly fascinating component of this event was meeting the interior designers who decorated the newly expanded VIP dressing rooms at the Train yards location. What a wonderful concept! I wish I could have caught some better shots of the rooms, but i don’t have the right lens, and I am an amateur photographer! You will have to go see it for yourselves!

And last, but not least, I met Lynn Spence, noted Canadian Stylist on Cityline from Toronto. If you grew up in Toronto, like me, Fashion experts like Lynn and Jeanne Beker are part of your family, they are your teachers, your mentors. Everything we know about Canadian Fashion is because of these women.

I hope you enjoy the pictures. Head over to Shepherd’s, you’ll be glad you did!
