Celebrating the latest in Ottawa men’s fashion with Strellson at CF Rideau Centre

Last week I was invited to take a peak inside the new Strellson store that opened in the newly expanded wing of the CF Rideau Centre. Strellson is a men’s clothing line and is Switzerland’s largest menswear manufacturer. You may be familiar with this line, as it is also found at the Hudson’s Bay.

Now, I don’t typically blog about men’s fashion or formally know much about it, but I am the primary stylist of my household, much like you gals out there. I not only have to dress my son, but I dress my (handsome) husband too! It’s not fair, they both look great in anything and have 0 curvy issues to deal with!

Any chance I get, I love getting all the latest details in men’s fashion. Which is why I was thrilled to watch David Altow, Director of Sales Strellson, give us the perfect presentation on key Strellson pieces and this year’s must haves (Ahem- BOMBER JACKET!)! You can watch the entire presentation in the video below. But if you are lazy, here are some key takeaways:

  1. Men get to wear cozy stretchy fabrics and still look like a million dollars at work
  2. Men must also consider the art of layering! It looks great and it’s perfect for temperature control
  3. Men’s clothes seem to be more “travel friendly” and most garments consider convenience, compactibility, versatility and portability (Ex: light-weight coats that keep you warm, dry, dressy and can easily get packed in your small bag)
  4. Technology is always considered, and never compromised whether it’s through innovative fabrics or pockets that hold your devices

Zack Smith and David were challenged to a “Fashion-off” initiated by fellow Ottawa blogger Marilou Moles of 20 York Street. She did a fantastic job of getting each guy to pull their top 5 favourite picks! I was asked to be a judge and ended up siding with Zack. As the fashion underdog, he pulled some great looks that I could see my husband wearing. Also he is cute. In the end David won!

Totally loved the sports jacket Zack is wearing with an optional puffy coat front-panel.

The thin and warm puffy coats and bomber jackets are all the rage! GO GET ONE NOW!!! (PS- That’s Marilou!)

The staff were super friendly and helpful. I’ll be headed there again soon to play stylist with my husband! You should go too 🙂

What to wear to the affair: Paradise City Boobyball Ottawa 2016

Come celebrate the 15th annual Boobyball fundraiser, hosted by Rethink Breast Cancer. This year’s theme is Paradise City! Think lemurs, tigers and flamingos… oh my!

Rethink breast cancer is the first ever Canadian charity to bring bold, relevant awareness to the 40s and under crowd; foster a new generation of young and influential breast cancer supporters; infuse sass and style into the cause; and, most importantly, respond to the unique needs of young women going through it.

Last year, I attended the first Boobyball event in Ottawa, and had a blast! This year, I was asked to support this amazing cause, and of course, I had a hard time saying no! How could I? So much effort goes into the theme, the fashion and the experience. If you’re already convinced, the you can simply…

BUY TICKETS HERE!

Event details

Here are the deets- the event this year will be held at Lago on October 28th.

DATE: October 28, 2016
TIME: 8:00PM – 1:00AM
LOCATION: Lago Bar & Grill
Dows Lake Pavilion
1001 Queen Elizabeth Driveway

What to wear to the affair?

I know this is what makes or breaks the ticket purchase. “I have nothing to wear, so I am not going!” she says. Wrong! Let me help you with that.

I found some pretty awesome inspirational pieces from l’Intervalle, HM and Zara. All which can now be found at CF Rideau Centre! One stop shop my friends, one stop shop.

I never like to reveal what I will be wearing, but as you know, I like to inspire. Maybe you already have a few key pieces you can put together at home? There is no need to spend big money, leave that money to the cause.

The pieces I chose are bright, colourful, floral, busy and loaded with pattern and some animal print of course. Have fun with your designer costume and remember to bring your A-Game!

#Squidgoals: Mermaid for a day at Aquamermaid school

This past weekend, I, along with my blogger friends, was invited to try out AquaMermaid, Ottawa’s first and only mermaid school. Yup, you heard me… I was a real mermaid for 1 hour, and I totally loved it!

First, what an awesome workout on your abs! Swimming is such a great way to stay active and refreshed at the same time. I say this, but you will NEVER see me doing laps in a pool, I am more of a dipper (in French we say “saucer”). What I am trying to say here is that, I shouldn’t omit swimming from my workout routine, especially if I can do it #MermaidStyle!

So how does it work?

At the base of the tail, you have a set of flippers where you place your feet, one next to the other. You then wrap the flippers in a bathing suit type fabric and pull it over all the way to your waist. It’s quite light and comfortable and fairly easy to move in. Other than having your feet strapped in, it’s not as claustrophobic as I imaged. The tails come in different sizes, colours and fabrics! I chose the pink because it matched my bathing suit 🙂 You can also buy your own Mermaid tail and practice at home!

We learnt the three basic swimming movements: front, back and side. All of which entail (tail! haha) a graceful wave-like flowy motion from your feet to your hips. If you’re a good swimmer, this should come pretty easily to you. After a few tries, I got the hang of it and only got better as I swam more.

This would be awesome for a birthday party, bachelorette, or just for a fun with the girls! Who knows, you may get addicted and get lured (more fish puns!) into a membership.

If you’re looking to try an introductory class with some gal pals, they are available at Lower town pool and costs $60 for one hour. Classes are available for kids and adults.
