In Ottawa, you know you have made it when you get featured on the coolest local blog around, Apt613! They have many ears to the ground and don’t miss a beat.
I was honoured when Kelsey Sunstrum, blogger and Apt613 writer, contacted me to do an exclusive interview to be part of their Blogosphere series.

I was invited by Emily, editor of The Best of this Life blog, to share my personal love story. It was such an amazing exercise, to go back and reminisce on the 13 plus years worth of memories I had created with my first love. When I read it over to him, I could tell he was flattered, but I made sure it didn’t go over his head!
I always say that I am extremely blessed to have found someone before the digital dating era. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to meet somebody, which primarily consists of your first impression based on their looks alone. I’m not even sure I’d master the swipe right or swipe left. I know I would be way too nice, open and willing to date pretty much anybody. Desperate times. I know I would over share personal information and open myself up way too quickly. It would scare the guys off. It would be a complete disaster.
Luckily, this story has a happy ending. If you want to know more about me, head over to the best of this life and check out my personal love story! ?
Everyone follows at least one blog, right? I’m not talking about news sites like Buzzfeed, Huffington Post or Just Jared. I am talking about a more personal approach to getting informed. The truth is, bloggers follow other bloggers. It’s a way to get inspired, keep up with the beat and create a network of supportive sistas.
So today, I am sharing my Ottawa Bloggers network with you in hopes that you start following people, real people, in your city and get a glimpse of the real local talent.
I love Mindy’s writing style. I can completely relate to her examples and references. I love reading her books, partly because she is hilarious, she’s got body issues, she’s from my generation and truly because it reminds me of my own writing style. An easy read.
Mindy is my spirit animal and my secret best friend… She just doesn’t know it yet. She’s a nerd at heart (like me!) who loves all things girly and funny as hell.
Mindy talks a lot about how she is pegged as a confident curvy woman in Hollywood. She admits not being able to relate to this ironic label. As much as she is confident, she hated the labels and deals with her own insecurities.
A few things I took away from the read:
Mindy knows a thing or two about fat and ugly jokes.
Like me, she advises to get clothes tailored.
She has an amazing angel by her side, Salvador Perez, who is her costume designer. He makes her look amazing in clothes.
Even out proportions of your body and invest in a good bra.
Lighting is everything! It can make you gorgeous or atrocious.
Always keep your hands on your hips when taking a photo because it makes your arms thinner… Never flat against your body!
“Because talking about looks isn’t important. It’s just supposed to be fun.” P22
