Style Profile: Rosie Waugh of Secondhand Rose

Meet Rosie Waugh of Secondhand Rose. I like her style, so I asked her a few questions.

What’s your passion for fashion?

My passion for fashion started when I was much younger. I am incredibly shy and have been anxious my entire life and I have found that wearing interesting pieces is a great icebreaker. I’m not the best at typical small talk but I love bonding with people over shared interest and I find fashion to be the most relatable thing. My style has definitely evolved from when I was younger, I was much more wild back then, but I still love to break out the odd statement piece to gain some (hopefully positive) attention.

What XLusive tip can you share?

The most freeing moment in my fashion life was the moment that I decided to wear what I wanted to wear and to rock what makes me feel most comfortable. I’m definitely a bigger girl and I gravitate towards more boxy and oversized pieces which is something I’ve been told to stay away from my entire life. Throwing out all of the rules and not letting anyone tell you what to wear is such an amazing feeling! One tip that I’d like to share is to go shopping alone. That’s when I personally find my best pieces. I just concentrate on what I like and what I know I’ll wear and I block out all of the outside noise and pressure.

Festive Fashion: Black and Red Holiday Looks

screen-shot-2015-12-08-at-10-14-54-pm In my post last week, I mentioned that I was featured in Ottawa Family Living magazine. As you know, print is always limited to space, unlike a blog, so my fashion outfits didn’t quite make the cut. I guess they wanted to keep the smart answers over the pretty pictures. That’s a win for any blonde girl! haha.

Just as I said in my article, my go-to this season, is Leather! Here are three easy looks that offer comfort, style and versatility!

Each look offers a different way to play up on leather:

  1. Leggings  (similar in size L/XL)
  2. Moto Jacket (similar in size L/XL)
  3. Skirt (similar in size L/XL)

Pleather leggings, oversized red sweater (H&M), black ankle booties (Nine West), black tassel purse (Aritzia). Easy, comfortable and very accessible.

Red dress (H&M), black leather moto jacket (Danier), black bag (Danier) and closed pumps (Calvin Klein). You can add black tights to this look to warm it up a bit. This is good for any casual Holiday party or night out.

Pretty in plaid! I love mixing odd combinations together! Plaid shirt (Old Navy), Skirt (Bailey 44), blue suede pumps (Nine West), clutch (Rudsak)

These are, once again, brought to you by the ever-talented Kristy Chapman Photography.

Simons Gatineau Haul: All dressed up and nowhere to go

Head to toe Simons, well almost! I love this outfit! It’s fun and flirty and perfect for the Holidays. It’s not a traditional holiday or winter colour scheme for that matter, but I don’t tend to stick with rules. This is a navy marino wool t-sweater paired with a pale pink tutu. I snatched up both pieces from Simons. I completed the look with a bright bib necklace and vintage Louis Vuitton Mary-Janes, and voila!

I don’t feel like doing a lot of talking, so let these gorgeous pictures speak for themselves! These are, once again, brought to you by the ever-talented Kristy Chapman Photography.

I have been hoarding these photos for a while, and I am so happy to share them with you, finally! This shoot was also meant to display my gorgeous kitchen… a.k.a. my bedroom. I love it! I live there 24/7! Thanks to my lovely husband who did all the work, almost 1 year ago!

PR Event: Shepherd’s Fashion Show with Lynn Spence

Shepherd’s Fashion in Ottawa was hosting their Fall Fashion Week, and I attended their event on Friday, October 2. WOW! A combination of food, decor, fashion and gorgeous women looking their best. I love that about interior designers, they pay attention to detail in all facets of their life, not just interior design. They always look amazing and have great clothes! BONUS!

So naturally, I gravitated to this lovely giant tier tray adorned with champagne flutes. Yup, I love champagne. I also love that this store has a catwalk built into it!! How smart is that?! Gorgeous models strutted their fall looks down the curvy lane, while women shopped until they dropped!

The particularly fascinating component of this event was meeting the interior designers who decorated the newly expanded VIP dressing rooms at the Train yards location. What a wonderful concept! I wish I could have caught some better shots of the rooms, but i don’t have the right lens, and I am an amateur photographer! You will have to go see it for yourselves!

And last, but not least, I met Lynn Spence, noted Canadian Stylist on Cityline from Toronto. If you grew up in Toronto, like me, Fashion experts like Lynn and Jeanne Beker are part of your family, they are your teachers, your mentors. Everything we know about Canadian Fashion is because of these women.

I hope you enjoy the pictures. Head over to Shepherd’s, you’ll be glad you did!
