This Sunday, I signed up for a major impromptu photoshoot with the most talented creative powerhouse I know: Brittany Frid, Owner and Creative Director of Satin & Snow, Ottawa’s leading fine art wedding planning and designing company.
Yes. This woman of many talents, is also picking up photography on her not-so-spare time. I’ve been following Brittany over the last two years online and I truly admire her self-made success. Like me, she works hard, non-stop, round-the-clock. That’s what it takes to make it, and my friends, she has made it.
I love her fresh romantic style and her creative eye. She has photographed me in ways that I have never seen myself. It’s remarkable. I am so in love with these photos and feel privileged to have worked with her. You know that I ALWAYS smile in my pictures, it’s my security blanket. I usually hate my serious face, and this woman captured it bang on! Or “BINGO” as she would say! She admitted that she was weary of shooting in the sunlight, and would also be going out of her comfort zone. But I have to say that the light and gentle breeze are what made these pictures come alive.
When I asked what “mood” she wanted to shoot, she told me “light, white and airy”. With only a few minutes to get ready for the photo shoot, I knew only one skirt could pull this look together: my white pleated skirt from Melanie Lynn, circa 2012. I can’t believe I have had it for that long. In fact, I wore it to my best friend’s wedding when I just found out I was pregnant with Victor. Lots of great memories in that skirt! So glad the style has come back. You can pick up a similar pleated skirt at Aritzia (I recently bought the black one!). I paired it with my blush Academy knit tank which I purchased after my Spring Lookbook photoshoot with Smithery and my grey hat (also from Artizia). On my lips, I am wearing Stila’s liquid lipstick in Baci.
Before going on my trip to Cancun, I rediscovered a way to tame my hair from the frizz brought on by the humidity of the ocean. I am a true mermaid, and love everything about the beach, but my hair isn’t exactly the nicest when it’s full of salt and sand. With my hair being shorter than usual, I find I need to style it more, to look it’s best. This combination means I need more moisture and shaping.
Being the lazy person that I am, when it comes to my beauty routine (yes! It’s true!), I’m so happy I rekindled my love for this oversized hair elastic I have been hoarding for the past 5 years. I thought I lost it today, and I almost cried.
I washed my hair with Fekkai Essential Shea, and added some Osis Soft ‘N Straight balm to my clean wet hair.
This is my air dried hair. See, I need help 😩.
I place the elastic over my head and start twisting strands of hair all the way around.
Do that to the entire head.
Let is sit under your tuque and go tobogganing with your family.
Only if you live under a rock, would you not know that the Ottawa Wine and Food Festival is happening from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 1, 2015. But timing this year is impeccable. Not only is the OWFF celebrating their 30th anniversary, but it falls on Halloween weekend. #Spooky
As most of my followers know, I was a makeup artist in my past life. I still dabble here and there, but in order to keep the passion alive, I try to limit my work. My only exception, of course, is Halloween! I love Halloween makeup and face painting. It’s the one time of year that I get to test my limits, use crazy colours and open up my creative channels that are blocked by the every day mundane.
The #HauteHalloweenOTT Red Carpet Welcome at the Ottawa Wine and Food Festival on Saturday, October 31 is the perfect opportunity to dress up with a little Halloween flare. Ghoulish and glamorous guests with ‘Arrive After 5 Haute Halloween Welcome’ tickets are encouraged to dress in their most opulent, outrageous costumes and walk the red carpet. But please, dict the masks and weapons. Four celebrity guests will be judging between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and will choose one lucky winner. The prize? A $7500 trip for two to the Barbados Food, Wine and Rum Show!
Ok, so you’re going to the OWFF, but the age old question remains? What shall I wear to the affair?Worry not! I have a few looks to help you take your makeup look from Glam Night to Vamp Fright! If you’re not into the ghoulish scene, maybe you would rather a softer look of Woodland Creatures. The important thing is to have fun and be original!
